Hear the gist.

Wisper Back reads it to you in a natural voice: the gist, or every word. Try it on Raj’s note.

MailFrom Raj

Raj 9:41

Went through the deck, and the flow works really well up to slide 7. Slide 9 says the same thing as slide 4, so I’d drop it. For 8 and 11, use last quarter’s actuals, not the projections. And can we move pricing before the demo? Shyam wants to end on the demo. Thanks, Raj

you hear

Raj likes the flow. Drop slide 9, use last quarter’s numbers on 8 and 11, and move pricing before the demo.

Or press and hold a line of Raj’s note to select it.

The gist, or every word

Most read-aloud apps start at the first word and keep going. Wisper Back can shorten it first: the email above becomes three short sentences.

Pick how much you hear: Auto, Brief, Balanced or Detailed. Or Talk-back, which reads the whole text word for word.

Lyrics in the notch

The words flow through the notch as they’re spoken, the current one lit, so you can follow along or glance away.

  • Drag, or swipe two fingers across the words, to go back or skip ahead.
  • Tilt the lid back to speed up, forward to slow down. Lower it to pause.
  • Knock twice on the palm rest to pause, three times to stop (when knocks are on).
  • Optional: feel each word as a light tap on the trackpad.

Anywhere you can select text

Mail, Safari, Chrome, PDFs in Preview, Slack, Notes, a pull request. Select and double-tap fn. Nothing selected? It reads what you just copied.

Or right-click any selection → Services → Read with Wisper Back, or Explain with Wisper Back.

Already have Speak Selection?

macOS reads selected text for free with Option-Esc, word for word, in its own voices. If that’s all you need, use it: here’s how to turn it on.

Wisper Back adds the short version, natural voices, the lyrics and scrubbing, and it reads your coding agents’ finished turns on its own.

Questions

Does narration work offline?

No. The text is prepared online before it’s spoken, so narration needs a connection, whichever voice you use. Dictation keeps working offline.

Which languages can it read?

Many. The gist is written in the language of the text you selected.

What happens to the text I select?

It’s sent to be shortened and spoken, and isn’t stored on our servers. Your history stays on your Mac. More in the privacy policy.

Can it read a whole article?

Yes. Set the length to Talk-back and it reads every word. Select the article first, or copy it and double-tap fn.

Can it read scanned pages or images?

Only if you can select the words. If Live Text lets you select them in Preview or Photos, it can read them.

Is it free?

Free to download and free to start. The Free plan has dictation, narration in the standard voice and 30 minutes of meetings a month. Every new account gets a free week of Pro, no card needed. Pro adds unlimited dictation with the best accuracy and hours of natural voices; plans are in the app.

Mic off

Hold it. That’s the only way the mic turns on.

  • The microphone opens only while you talk or record a meeting.
  • Your history stays on your Mac.
  • What you send to be read aloud isn’t kept.
